Fish polynucleotides are a hot topic in the skincare industry

November 27th, 2024

It sounds a bit fishy but it’s true, you can get more youthful-looking skin using salmon sperm injectables. Polynucleotides from fish DNA can be injected into the skin to kick start and boost skin regeneration. The injectables are claimed to be one of the most effective procedures for the future of anti-ageing skin generation.

Polynucleotides are the hot topic in the skincare industry.

Dr Ash Soni, a plastic and reconstructive surgeon and founder of the Soni Clinic performs over 250 polynucleotide procedures monthly.

He explained “Polynucleotides are the current hot topic in our industry. The innovation behind this is amazing – it’s a natural way to improve our skin and tissues on a cellular level.”

He added, “Polynucleotides stimulate our own cells to produce some of the things we lose with ageing, namely the fibroblast cells, which are responsible for producing collagen and elastin. Imagine your skin as a mattress – elastin is its springs and collagen is the stuffing.”

The unconventional procedure was thrust into the spotlight when Kim Kardashian, the American multi-media personality and businesswoman, said she had used the injectables after hearing about Dr. Soni. She explained, “I got a salmon sperm facial with salmon sperm injected into my face. As someone who is perpetually plagued by dark circles and Saturn-size hollows around the eyes, he had my attention.”

What are Polynucleotides?

Polynucleotides are long chains of nucleotides, the building blocks of DNA and RNA. They play a crucial role in our bodies, influencing various processes, including the appearance of the skin.

Polynucleotide injectables.

Polynucleotide injectables are an innovative aesthetic treatment that can help to prevent or slow down the signs of premature ageing. When skin is injected with fish polynucleotides it triggers the body to produce additional collagen and elastin. The injectable bio stimulator kick starts the skin’s regeneration to make it firmer, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Polynucleotides activate fibroblast cells within the skin to regenerate, plump and hydrate it. They can make the skin look tighter, and more radiant and fix uneven skin tone.

The importance of collagen and elastin.

Collagen is a protein made of amino acids found in the body, it is a building block for the skin, muscles, bones, tendons, ligaments and connective tissue. It is also found in organs, blood vessels and the intestinal lining. It supplies a protective cover over organs and gives strength and elasticity to the skin. Elastin is a stretchy protein, it extends and recoils and is essential for tissues and organs in the body that need stretching, such as blood vessels, lungs, bladder, ligaments and the skin.

Are polynucleotide injectables different to Botox or dermal fillers?

Polynucleotide injectables are not anti-wrinkle injections or fillers. They work differently from Botox and dermal fillers. They improve the skin’s firmness, texture, and elasticity from within, promoting the production of collagen and elastin. The treatment reduces inflammation, hyperpigmentation, the appearance of rosacea, sun damage, and stretch marks. It diminishes acne scarring and repairs the skin. The injections can be used alongside Botox and fillers.

What is the procedure?

Minimally invasive polynucleotide injections can be inserted into the body, face, neck, and hands. The cutting-edge treatment starts with the area of the skin being numbed and then massaged with ice. There is normally a pricking sensation followed by stinging for a few seconds. The injected areas can bruise, swell or stay red for up to an hour. After treatment no make-up should be applied for 24 hours, intense activity should be avoided and gentle skincare should be used. The effects can be noticed after the first treatment. After the second injection you should see good results, the improvements should last six to seven months. Due to polynucleotide injections containing animal products, it is not recommended for vegans, vegetarians, pregnant women or those who are breastfeeding. The polynucleotide injections can be pricey but there are cheaper options and things that are in your control.

Diet, hydration and skincare.

We produce less collagen and elastin every year. Diet and hydration play a key role in youthful-looking skin. Your balanced diet should include collagen-rich foods such as bone broth, chicken, fish or egg whites. Recommended fruits include berries, tropical and citrus fruits. Vegetables such as garlic, leafy greens, tomatoes and bell peppers are also on the list. Beans and cashew nuts are good sources too. Elastin can be found in flax seed, sesame seed, soybeans or tofu. In addition, dried fruit, berries, garlic, peaches, broccoli, cabbage and brussel sprouts. It is recommended that a person drinks 5-8 glasses of water every day to hydrate the skin and improve the skin texture.

Skincare products and your skincare regime should include the following considerations:

  • Determine what skin type you have
  • Maintain skin health
  • Seek skincare guidance
  • Look at recommendations and reviews for products
  • Do a targeted routine, address specific areas of concern
  • If needed, use advanced solutions for problem areas. Acne, scarring, pigmentation or other skin conditions
  • Choose an anti-ageing product if it is specific to your needs
  • Use products with care, follow product instructions
  • Be aware of the ingredients that you are putting on your skin
  • Adapt your product choices if your skin becomes sensitive and reacts to products

What should your daily skincare regime include?

First thing in the morning you should start with:

  • A cleanser and toner
  • Serum – preferably containing vitamin C
  • Targeted creams such as an eye cream
  • A moisturiser containing sunscreen
  • Sunscreen if your moisturiser doesn’t have it

In the evening…

  • If worn, use a makeup remover and a cleansing balm face wash
  • Use a face wash if makeup isn’t worn to remove dirt or other pollutants on the skin
  • Cleanse and tone
  • Apply target creams such as spot creams
  • Use a night cream

Other products you can use as part of your skincare routine are face packs or face masks. An exfoliant can be used but don’t be too aggressive with the application. Under eye patches can help to reduce dark circles or bags under the eyes. You can also treat yourself to a facial or a skin peel. Electronic devices such as microcurrent skin tightners or LED facial sculptors are another option.

Experts will be able to advise you of what would be most appropriate procedure for your skin type. Make sure you do your research before you try procedures that could damage your skin if not done properly.

To help improve the texture of your skin, we recommend our supplement RetinPro.

Tretinoin (Retinoic Acid) is proven to be an effective anti-ageing product for rejuvenating skin and reducing visible signs of ageing, demonstrating remarkable changes in skin elasticity and firmness in just six weeks.
