New Year’s resolutions and slowing down the ageing process of the face
January 10th, 2022Eat, drink and be merry!
What are your New Year’s resolutions this year? We suggest that you plan to eat, drink and be merry to help slow down the ageing process of the face. Eat healthily, drink sensibly and look after your mental health.
Tackle the ageing process from the inside out…
Ageing is a fact of life and tackling the ageing process from the inside out is cheaper than expensive beauty treatments or products. For example, experts say, eating five portions of fruit and veg a day can add three years to your life – find a beauty cream that can do that!
Eat and glow…
The skin is the largest organ of the body and beautiful skin starts with what we consume. If we eat foods loaded with essential nutrients, antioxidants, healthy fats and drink water our skin will appreciate it. Sometimes it’s written all over our face that we aren’t looking after our body – dull, wrinkly, spotty and dry skin can be an obvious sign. Research has proven that eating fruits and vegetables is the safest and healthiest way to combat dull complexions and fine lines.
Do you want your skin to glow and consume food and drink that will take years off your face? This is what the experts recommend.
Try to incorporate the following food types into your diet:
Watercress
Who would think that such a spindly looking vegetable would be a nutrient-rich hydrating green which is a great source of calcium, potassium, manganese, phosphorus and vitamins A, C, B-1, and B2. Incorporate it into a delicious pasta dish such as trofie pasta with watercress, courgette and almonds
Red bell peppers
The bright coloured peppers are full of antioxidants which are fantastic for antiaging, they also have a high level of vitamin C. Delicious roasted like in this Mediterranean stuffed peppers recipe
Papaya
Not a fruit that people would normally choose to incorporate into their meal but it is another super-rich food in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals such as calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and potassium. Try this fruity dish – gammon with pineapple and papaya salsa
Blueberries
Delicious little blue balls of goodness that are rich in vitamins A and C as well age-defying antioxidants. For those with a sweet tooth, have a go at baking cinnamon topped blueberry muffins
Broccoli
The tree resembling vegetable is an anti-inflammatory, anti-ageing mega source packed with vitamins C and K – fibre, folate, lutein and calcium. Great to accompany any dinner. A perfect addition to a fish dish would be roasted fresh broccoli with garlic, lemon and parmesan cheese
Spinach
Guaranteed not to give you muscles like Popeye but a hydrating vegetable that is packed with antioxidants. Rich in vitamin A, C, E, and K, magnesium, iron and lutein. A great addition to a pasta dish such as lasagne
Nuts
There are lots of benefits to eating nuts, they are a great source of vitamin E which helps repair skin tissue and retain moisture. A nut roast is a tasty alternative this Christmas
Avocados
The very popular avocado helps reduce inflammation and contains fighting fatty acids to promote smooth supple skin. Avocados are rich in vitamins and potassium – try avocado toast with smoked salmon it looks delicious
Sweet potato
A popular alternative to the common potato, sweet potato contains an antioxidant called beta-carotene which is converted to vitamin A. It helps restore elasticity in the skin. Sweet potato cakes with poached eggs look like a great choice for lunch
Pomegranates
A fruit that you don’t hear much about but contains healing medical properties – high in vitamin C and potent antioxidants. Warm aubergine, pomegranate and onion salad would be a great starter for a dinner party

Be merry for your skin’s sake
Stress can be damaging for the body in so many ways – it can affect your health and you can wear it on your face with frown lines and dull complexions. Unfortunately a lot of things that cause us stress can’t be avoided. Developing the ability to lead a stressful life and be happy can be extremely challenging but it should be a goal. Maybe it’s a matter of acceptance of a stressful situation and then choosing to be happy. Happiness triggers feel-good hormones in the body – dopamine, endorphins and oxytocin. In turn, it creates an increase in collagen production and improved circulation and oxygenation for skin rejuvenation. Combining exercise, positive thinking and a healthy diet could be just what you need as you step into 2022.
