Female longevity

October 17th, 2025

Women experience ageing differently from men, with one third of their lives spent in perimenopausal, menopausal, and postmenopausal stages. These phases bring significant hormonal changes that shape the female body. Dr Robin Berzin identifies the 3 ‘B’s as essential to female longevity, offering women over 40 keys to a longer, healthier life.

The ageing woman…

The female, ageing, hormonal journey that women take can be cruel, resulting in a negative body image, low self-esteem, and social withdrawal. The ‘changes’ that they go through can affect their physical and mental health.

What causes those changes?

Women experience natural hormonal and biological changes from around the age of 40. Hormones shift, and lifestyles change as they enter middle age. They start to experience bone density loss, age spots, muscle weakness, weight gain, changes in fat distribution, brain fog, and alterations in skin elasticity, which can lead to fine lines and wrinkles. No wonder it can be a period in their life when things become a real challenge.

Throughout the menopause, fluctuating estrogen also causes hair thinning, sleep issues, mood swings, no sex drive, hot flashes (sweating), and vaginal and skin dryness. Strength and flexibility are lessened, causing balance and coordination issues, making women more prone to falling and bone fractures due to bone deterioration. It’s an unfair infliction, but something women need to learn to live with, and, with knowledge, that journey alone can improve longevity. Steps can be taken to shake off those hormonal challenges, such as the 3 ‘B’s.

The 3 ‘B’s – Brain, Bones, and Booty (which refers to muscle strength and resistance training).

This month at the Flow Space Women’s Health Summit in Los Angeles, Dr Robin Berzin, founder and CEO of Parsley Health, discussed the principles of the 3 ‘B’s.

“People are living longer, but we’re living longer crippled by chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease and dementia,” she said. “I don’t just want to live longer. I want to live healthier.”

Dr Berzin has treated more than 50,000 patients, 80% women, integrating hormone replacement therapy alongside nutrition and lifestyle changes to improve their health and lifespan. She believes that women deserve prevention-focused care long before decline sets in.

“When we talk about midlife and female ageing, we tend to focus only on hormones.” However, Berzin highlighted that longevity needs to be through a whole body story – the brain, the bones, and the booty (the booty refers to muscle resistance training and metabolism).

She explained that there’s no holy grail or health hack; she simply wants people to move their bodies, feed their brains, and take earlier, smarter, preventative care. Hoping to live life to the fullest for years to come.

During her speech, she told people that it’s never too late to focus on your brain, bones, and booty. The brain needs to be nourished through omega-3 fats and exercise. The bone density level needs to be checked well before routine checkups, and the body needs to be nourished with a regular exercise regimen, heavily focused on weight-bearing exercises. She hopes to inspire women to take those steps to improve their health and lifespan. Read more about the summit here.

Here are our top tips for female longevity:

  • Discuss your health and any concerns with your healthcare provider. You may need specific advice about the 3 ‘B’s if you already have conditions or diseases
  • Make those 3 ‘B’s lifestyle changes – improve your mind, bones, and booty
  • Eat a healthy diet, low in saturated fats, processed sugar, and salt. You could try a Mediterranean diet and intermittent fasting to help with nutrition and maintain a healthy weight
  • Exercise, including resistance and cardiovascular training. Stretching is also important to improve flexibility and release lactic acid that can build up in the muscles
  • Try yoga, pilates, tai chi, or meditation to help you relax
  • Go for walks and enjoy the nature around you. There are lots of walking groups where you can meet new people and find new places to walk in your area
  • Drink less sugary and caffeinated drinks and more water and healthy juices, such as ‘women’s health’ smoothies
  • Create a sleep routine, including sleeping in a relaxed environment, having blackout blinds, and good ventilation. Try to go to bed and get up at the same time every day
  • Reduce stress levels. This could involve making specific lifestyle changes, exercising, taking time for rest, and getting rid of unnecessary stress. It might be time for a new job or to distance yourself from people who don’t make you feel good about yourself
  • Stay social with friends and family. Look for group meet-ups or classes so you can interact with new people
  • Keep the mind active by doing brain-boosting problem-solving exercises and reading. Listen to music and try new challenges, which could include travel to inspire you and educate you
  • Reduce alcohol consumption or give up drinking alcohol altogether
  • Give up smoking and recreational drugs
  • Avoid polluted areas
  • Have a good skincare routine
  • If you like beauty treatments and they make you feel good about yourself, they should be the icing on the cake; you need a good cake before you can ice it. In other words, your health is the priority then you can enhance your features through different treatments

The female body has heart-protective effects from estrogen and positive genetic components, such as two X chromosomes, giving women the edge when it comes to longevity. On average, women are living 5 years longer than men.

If you are a woman struggling and trying to get a grip on life, take female longevity into your own hands and make your life experience a healthy and happy one.

Embrace your new midlife shape and enjoy some retail therapy. Most importantly, cherish those around you, look after your health so you can help them.

To enhance a healthy diet and target key areas, we recommend our products:
